About Us
a brief history:
BC (aka Benjamin C. Fisher) has been 'doing electronics' since age six, earning a living 'at electronics' since eighteen, and at age thirty-two fell in-love all over again with 'electronics'.
Now aged thirty-five BC is focused on building innovative, different and highly usable synthesizers.
the trigger:
The death of Bob Moog (August 21st 2005) triggered BC to spend several days researching Moog's life and that of his various companies. Bob's death coincided with a desire to do something else and rekindled a much earlier interest in electronic synthesis; towards the end of that second evening a raided transistor drawer resulted in some VCO's and a ladder type VCF. It was during this time that the basic principles of chimera synthesis were figured out. Other business took over as usual after these few days - but the feeling that this WAS what BC wanted to do remained.
the gate:
Various events conspired in late-2006 several synthesizer products were born, then other business intervened to absorb the time necessary to complete the production engineering.
Finally in late-2007 Chimera Synthesis was created to build and sell the bC16, the SM16 and carry on the research and development into old uses of new technology (and new uses of old technology).
why CHIMERA?
A chimera is essentially a 'thing' created from at least two sets of parents, in ancient mythology a chimera had the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the behind of a snake; our use of chimera is derived from it's 'genetic' meaning - a single organism with genetically distinct cells from two different zygotes. This refers to the underlying concepts behind our products; analog filters, digital oscillators, patch cords, DSPs, vacuum tubes & surface mount, wood, plastic and iron and titanium - our products are chimeras.
